It is our great honor to experience and enjoy the richness of nature, finding that when we experience the natural world we find happiness and a sense of fulfillment. Snow Peak’s journey began in 1958, when our founder Yukio Yamai, an accomplished mountaineer, created his own line of superior gear out of the dissatisfaction with available products. It is our birth place and our founders heritage that we look to when ever we sit down at the drawing board and create our next piece of outdoor gear.
Yukio Yamai had lived his entire life in Sanjo City, in the Chetsu region of Niigata Prefecture, which is also known locally as a hardware town. A range of mountains that rise up to an altitude of 1000m form a wall on the boundary between Niigata and Fukushima prefectures, and the rivers and streams born from the peaks and valleys, are the home of torrent fish, flow out to the East Japan Sea. This rich environment full of sea, mountains, and rivers naturally evokes a strong interest in the outdoors in the people who are born and raised there. It is this place that inspired Yukio, and to this day continues to inspire all of the products that come from Snow Peak.
Today we strive to create products that inspire people to enjoy the outdoors, we seek harmony between people and nature, and we look to manufacturer with such high quality standards that you’ll pass them on to the next generation like a great wrist watch. We are excited to introduce our first North American retail location in Portland, Oregon. Here we proudly showcase our entire product line as well as a curated selection of 3rd party brands, building upon the outdoor lifestyle Snow Peak strives to create.
